Gavin Lautenbach

Gavin Lautenbach has been guiding for the past 15 years, mostly at small private camps in South Africa, and has led specialist photographic safaris, walking safaris and birding safaris within the reserves where he has worked, as well as reserves in many other countries. He takes specialist birding and mammal trips through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malaysia and Borneo. He has also been involved in the training of guides for many years. A passionate naturalist and conservationist, Gavin’s interests include birds, cats and tracking. He really enjoys photography and helping people capture the moment.

Praise from Natural Habitat travelers:

J. Parrish
"Very high marks all around. Gavin was very attentive and seemed to cater to each individuals interests seamlessly, be it birds, photography, food, or activity. Hi knowledge of animals and birds was excellent. Personality fantastic. Enthusiasm exceptional and contagious. Desire to ensure that everyone had a great time shows in outstanding customer service and attention to detail.  Gavin treated all feedback professionally, constructively and IMHO quite successfully. Gavin a great asset for Nat Hab!!"

B. Leslie
"Gavin was professional, knowledgeable, excited about the trip and wildlife. His love of the job was evident and he was a delight to be around."

T. Markway
"Gavin was the best leader I have had on any trip - NHA or others. He was well versed in the location, mammals, birds, photography, people skills and it goes on! The information was given to us in small bites and then reiterated as needed."

T. Bridge
"I cannot heap enough praise on Gavin. He really listens, is thoroughly polite, but also speaks directly and honestly when he needs to. I could tell he was always concerned about us and showed it. His spotting skills and related guiding are extremely professional. His bird knowledge was amazing. He worked hard to see that everyone was included in any viewing opportunity."

L. Roberts
"Gavin was wonderful. Charming and very funny. We all had a blast with him. He was very attentive to details to make sure everything went smoothly. Would love to have him as an expedition leader in the future."
