Our Story
Garrett Fache
Garrett was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, dividing his time as a child between the city, his grandparents' farm in Binscarth, and the family cabin on Lake of The Woods, which is where he fell in love with the wild outdoors. Garrett has been guiding canoe trips and documenting outdoor sports for over a decade in Manitoba and Ontario, leading expeditions up to 43 days long. As a professional photographer, he also uses such opportunities to create content for major outdoor brands and tourism companies. Growing with two teachers as his parents, Garrett has blended his love of sports and education to become a whitewater canoe instructor and climbing instructor. He also teaches videography at Willis College. In addition to his work as a naturalist guide, he is a sponsored canoeist, plays lead guitar in a rock band, and he can quote most of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Garrett is enthused to share his love and knowledge of his native Manitoba with guests on our Churchill adventures.
What's in My Camera Bag
When packing, I like to prioritize space for film cameras to capture a wide variety of images with different rolls of film. This allows me to tailor the stills I take to the feel each roll brings. As far as digital, I like to get as wide a focal range through as few lenses as possible. One ultra wide, a "walk around lens", and a super zoom. With Churchill, you never know what you're going to get, so bring a large range to never leave a moment uncaptured.
