Peter Ramsden 2022
Pete grew up with a deep love for nature, the outdoors, and the stories that unfold when you pause long enough to really look. At a young age, he was introduced to photography by his great-uncle Jim, who ran a small darkroom and sparked Pete's lifelong fascination with capturing light. That early influence has stayed with him, and today Pete blends his passion for photography with more than 12 years of experience as a professional naturalist guide and photographer.
Pete has led photography and nature expeditions across various environments, from the rugged coastlines of the UK to the Alps, the deserts of the UAE, and the wilds of North America. His experience spans mountain, desert, rainforest, and marine ecosystems, giving him a deep understanding of wildlife behavior and the photographic opportunities that come with each.
He has taught week-long workshops for Sony Alpha Ambassadors and regularly trains guides and travelers in advanced photography techniques. His skill set includes long-exposure and action photography, dynamic product imaging, and conservation-focused storytelling. Pete is also proficient in post-processing using Lightroom and Topaz software to ensure high-quality image output.
As a photographer, Pete is always chasing light, the kind that transforms a moment into something timeless. His photographic style leans toward candid wildlife shots and storytelling landscapes, strongly emphasizing light, mood, and emotion. He especially loves working during the golden hours when the landscape and wildlife come alive in unexpected ways, but his passion extends well into the night. After years of capturing the aurora borealis, he has developed extensive experience in night photography and a particular interest in light painting. He has led long exposure workshops in British Columbia that explore creative lighting techniques, using artificial light to highlight the temporary human presence within natural scenes. For Pete, photography is not just about the image; it is a way of connecting more deeply with a place, an animal, or a fleeting moment in nature.
When not guiding, Pete is often found off the grid. He spends his time splitboarding and mountaineering in British Columbia’s backcountry or racing sailboats and enduro mountain bikes during the summer. He recently completed his Advanced Open Water Diver certification to integrate his guiding and photography skills into ship-based expeditions worldwide. In 2025, he is also photographing products professionally, focusing on creating compelling, real-world visual narratives for outdoor gear companies.

What Our Guests Say
Pete was fantastic! I came home not only with wonderful pictures of the aurora but a whole new appreciation for night photography. He taught me so much about how to use my camera and iPhone to take pictures at night. His knowledge of Churchill and the wildlife and culture was outstanding. I enjoyed learning about the Indigenous people of the area and have a new appreciation for them as well. I would definitely recommend him to others and would enjoy going on another adventure with him.
Pete is AWESOME! He was patient and was able to help with a wide variety of cameras. The guests had a broad variety of experience too, yet he was on top of it all. I was impressed by his knowledge of the area, the wildlife and the people of Churchill. Pete is a warm and considerate guide, and I look forward to going on another trip with him.
I know people tend to say, 'My guide was the best guide ever.' But in Pete’s case, it’s true! He knows so much about wildlife, the environment, and the area; he is a very knowledgeable photographer who shared his knowledge; and he was organized and punctual while also being flexible. Pete also has first-class interpersonal skills and spent time with each guest throughout the trip. He really made our adventure memorable.
