Lemme Gust 2017
Lemme Guest was born in the small southwest Botswana village of Ncojane and raised in Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. He spent school holidays in the bush, looking after the family livestock alongside his brother. As he spent considerable time immersed in the harsh and beautiful desert, he grew to respect it deeply. This childhood exposure fostered a lifelong love for nature. Also, because predators such as lions, jackals, hyenas and leopards could attack his family's goats and cattle at night, he learned vital tracking skills from his grandfather.
While studying geography in school, Lemme’s interest in the bush only intensified. He knew an office job would never fulfill his soul. It was during these school days that he also developed an interest in the stars—most of it self-taught until he added basic astronomy to his curriculum while studying tourism and hospitality. His interests merged as he got involved with conservation programs like BirdLife Botswana, where he camped under the stars to count birds in various areas like Lake Ngami and in the Moremi Game Reserve.
Adding to his expertise as an Expedition Leader, Lemme is a certified walking guide and tracker, and he has been a private camp guide during recent years in the Linyanti, Okavango and Kalahari regions. His interests include travel, birding, meeting people and photography. His writing appears in The Explorer travel magazine.
