Charlie Sandbo2025
An Oregon native, Charlie developed a love for the natural world early on. Childhood days were spent outside tracking insects through the garden, while indoor play involved constructing elaborate zoos and watching wildlife documentaries. A pivotal family trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton at age 10—complete with sightings of grizzlies, bison and wolves—cemented his dream of becoming a wildlife photographer.
Charlie earned a degree in international studies from Willamette University, writing his thesis on tourism policy in small island developing states and studying abroad in New Zealand. His global travels have since taken him from the Arctic tundra to tropical beaches, but he’s always drawn back to Yellowstone, where his passion for wildlife photography began.
As a Nat Hab Photo Expedition Leader, Charlie helps guests explore the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem through the lens—whether spotting wolves, photographing bison in golden light or capturing star-filled skies. He meets guests at every experience level, offering practical instruction and emphasizing ethical wildlife photography.
Charlie's images have been recognized in the Audubon Photography Awards and other competitions, and his work often highlights the beauty and vulnerability of the natural world. He donates a portion of his proceeds to conservation efforts and uses his platform to encourage environmental stewardship.
Having witnessed firsthand the dramatic changes shaping our planet, Charlie is deeply committed to Nat Hab’s mission of Conservation through Exploration. Through his lens and leadership, he hopes to help others not only experience nature’s wonders but also inspire a responsibility to protect them.
