Lianne Thompson 2018

Lianne grew up in southern Ontario, drawn to every opportunity to explore the outdoors. Her love for wildlife led her to pursue a degree in Zoology, launching a career in conservation through work with zoos and environmental organizations. Early on, she recognized the importance of effective science communication—bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and public engagement.

To deepen her impact, Lianne earned a master’s degree in science communication, focusing on leadership, education and community-driven conservation. Her studies took her across the globe, where she encountered innovative initiatives in wildlife protection. These experiences shaped her passion for human-wildlife coexistence and sustainable wildlife tourism, setting the stage for a career in guiding.

Now, as a wildlife guide, Lianne blends education, adventure and photography to create meaningful experiences for travelers. To her, photography is more than documentation—it’s a means of connection. A single image can recall the bite of an Arctic wind, the scent of rain-soaked rainforest earth or the warmth of the sun cresting a mountain peak.

Through her work, she strives to help others forge these same connections, using photography to cultivate awe, appreciation and a commitment to conservation. Whether guiding guests to capture polar bears, whales or the Aurora Borealis, Lianne is dedicated to sharing the magic of the natural world—one frame at a time.

Lianne was fantastic, knowledgeable and answered all our questions at length with a smile on her face. She was a kind, caring and thoughtful guide. She made it interesting and exciting, and there was never a dull moment. She's a true asset to Nat Hab! We'd go on a trip with her as our guide anytime, hands down.

Lianne was such a great Expedition Leader. She was bubbly, fun and a wealth of information. We all gelled as a group due to her enthusiasm. When the aurora was really dancing, she was shouting with glee! We all laughed and truly became friends. Lianne is a storyteller for sure—ask a question, and you get a 5-minute answer! We all loved this. She made sure everyone's needs were met. Lianne always had a smile on her face, so positive and real!
A. Shumrak
Lianne was an excellent Expedition Leader since she spoke well and knew information on a wide variety of topics. She taught our group a lot about Churchill, Arctic culture and animals found in that region. She went out of her way to be extraordinarily friendly to everyone in our group
