Sofia is a marine biologist from Ecuador specializing in conservation and ecology, with a focus on whale shark behavior and movement ecology. She holds a master’s degree in marine biological resources and has spent years exploring and guiding in the Galapagos Islands and other marine ecosystems around the world.

Based in the Galapagos, Sofia is a certified naturalist and dive guide leading expeditions focused on marine wildlife, conservation and ecological interpretation. She also serves as an expedition coordinator, Zodiac driver and naturalist guide in Antarctica and the Arctic, introducing travelers to polar landscapes and marine ecosystems shaped by extreme conditions.

Her background includes roles as a university guest lecturer, shark specialist aboard dive liveaboards and researcher with conservation organizations and NGOs. Her field experience spans shark ecology, marine invasive species, sea turtle conservation and long-term ecological monitoring.

Photography is another important part of Sofia’s conservation efforts. She contributes to scientific expeditions and collaborative conservation projects, documenting wildlife and remote marine environments through photography. She is also involved in outdoor and environmental education programs for local youth and helps organize community cleanups through Chicas con Agallas and the Sustainable Ocean Alliance.

In her free time, Sofia enjoys freediving, rock climbing and spending time outdoors whenever possible.
