Andy Woodward2023
Andy has resided in the picturesque region of England known as the Cotswolds for over 25 years. Originally from Essex, northeast of London, a career relocation in the late ‘90s serendipitously brought him to this charming locale, where he has found no desire to leave. Raised in the countryside, Andy and his brother would pass the hours cycling local lanes and playing in the woods.
After school, he embarked on a gap year to New Zealand, traversing both islands, shepherding sheep, tending to kiwi fruit and harvesting asparagus for a season. He returned to the UK to study cartography, geography and land use in Luton, colloquially known as the UK’s “Motown.” A passion for travel propelled Andy into tour operating, ascending to the position of Product Director of a $50m turnover specialist by age 30.
A career transition into tourism saw him representing destinations such as California, North Carolina, Taiwan and Tasmania, before a refocusing on home-life led him to domestic tourism. Andy assumed the role of CEO at a notable farm charity, Farm Stay UK, specializing in farm/agri-tourism diversification. This niche focus has established him as a leading authority in rural tourism, culminating in his presidency at EuroGites, the European Federation of Rural Tourism.
Since 2017, Andy has been guiding for pleasure, delighting in imparting his knowledge to visitors. He strategically avoids overly touristic destinations, preferring to introduce guests to the authentic Cotswolds, while forming new friendships. He became a Nat Hab Expedition Leader in 2023.
What Our Guests Say
Andy is wonderful. Having to manage the trip, do the driving, and take care of all of us was a huge job for one person, but he handled it calmly and efficiently. His local knowledge made the difference between the trip being good and spectacular. His “mystery stops” were highlights of the trip, and his ease in navigating the roads and villages made us comfortable. Andy’s friendly, long-standing relationship with each of the guest guides extended to the group, making each excursion more enjoyable. We can't say enough good things about Andy!
Andy was one of the best guides I’ve ever had, and he was extremely patient with all of our quirks! Everything was presented clearly, and the schedule was well done. It was immensely helpful that he was a local. It was raining for one of our outings and we couldn’t do our scheduled activity, so he took us to some of his favorite places, something that would have been difficult if he didn’t know the area! He was professional and kind, and I truly appreciate everything he did for us.
Andy was very informative and well organized, and he has a great sense of humor. It was so beneficial to have a guide who has lived in the Cotswolds for a long time, as he was able to adjust the itinerary when required. We loved his many interesting stories about the Cotswolds and England!
