Our Story

Curtis Jones

Growing up in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, Curtis developed an early appreciation for storytelling through the region's rich oral traditions. That upbringing shaped the way he sees the relationship between people, nature and place, inspiring a lifelong passion for exploring and documenting wild landscapes.

Curtis earned a pharmacy degree from Memorial University and spent more than a decade practicing as a pharmacist. His scientific background continues to influence his work, bringing curiosity, careful observation and a calm, approachable teaching style to the field.

Over the past 15 years, Curtis has built a career as a photographer, storyteller and expedition guide. He spent more than a decade living and working in the Canadian Arctic, an experience that profoundly shaped both his photography and his understanding of the natural world. His work has taken him from the polar landscapes of Greenland and Antarctica to subarctic Canada and Mongolia's Gobi Desert. His photographs have appeared in National Geographic Explorer, Canadian Geographic, The Globe and Mail and HuffPost. Through both commercial and personal projects, he has supported environmental conservation, literacy programs, national parks, sustainable tourism and food sustainability initiatives.

As a Photo Expedition Leader, Curtis enjoys helping guests become more thoughtful and confident photographers by looking beyond camera settings to better understand light, composition and storytelling. He hopes travelers return home with compelling images and a deeper appreciation for the wildlife, landscapes and communities they encountered.

What's in My Camera Bag

My Packing Philosophy

My packing philosophy is to fit the gear I would need to do my job even if my checked luggage didn’t arrive. That means at least one camera body, one telephoto lens, one wide-angle lens, batteries, memory cards, and an SSD for backups. Packing lightly and intentionally keeps my camera bag nimble in the field, compliant with most airline carry-on requirements, and focused on the equipment I use most often.
