Growing up in western Canada, Kaegan developed a strong interest in wildlife and outdoor pursuits from an early age. That interest led him to study conservation biology and pursue a career in wildlife research and management.

Kaegan earned a bachelor of science in environmental and conservation sciences from the University of Alberta. He later completed a master of science in biological sciences at the University of Lethbridge, where he also worked as a teaching assistant.

Early in his career, Kaegan gained field experience across the Canadian Rockies and Yukon, including tracking wolverines from helicopters and working with bears in Banff. He now works with Parks Canada in Lake Louise, specializing in human-wildlife coexistence. His work with grizzly and black bears includes research, capture and collaring, relocation and managing wildlife interactions in areas shared by people and animals. He also helps visitors observe wildlife safely while interpreting animal behavior and ecology in the field.

Kaegan’s professional experience has taken him throughout the Canadian Rockies and into the Yukon, where he has worked in mountain parks and remote backcountry environments.

Based in the Canadian Rockies, Kaegan is an active naturalist, birder and hunter with a strong interest in wildlife tracking. Outside of work, he spends his time fishing, hiking, paddling and skiing with friends and family.
