Our Story

Sebastian Velasco2026

Sebastian grew up in Mexico City but developed a deep connection to the outdoors in the vast river systems of northern Ontario. During university breaks, he spent extended periods traveling through remote backcountry waterways, gaining firsthand experience navigating wild landscapes and living for weeks at a time on land.

He studied engineering physics at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. His academic training sharpened his analytical approach to natural systems and deepened his interest in how environmental conditions influence wildlife behavior and ecosystem dynamics.

Sebastian has spent years leading youth canoe expeditions through the Canadian backcountry, guiding groups across thousands of miles of rivers and lakes. These experiences strengthened his leadership skills and reinforced his belief that outdoor travel provides one of the most effective environments for learning, resilience and personal growth.

Today, he spends significant time in the oyamel forests of Michoacan, where millions of monarch butterflies gather each winter. Watching the colony take flight as temperatures rise remains one of the most remarkable wildlife events he has witnessed. For Sebastian, the monarch migration offers a powerful example of how climate, habitat and species behavior are closely connected.

Sebastian guides with curiosity and warmth, helping travelers build a deeper understanding of the ecosystems and wildlife they encounter. A passionate photographer and storyteller, he enjoys helping travelers slow down and observe the details of a landscape, from wildflowers and pollinators to the cultural history that shapes a region. When he is not guiding, he enjoys seeking dark skies, good coffee and quiet places to watch the natural world unfold.
