Our Story

Guillermo Knell 2016

Guillermo grew up in Lima, Peru, with a passion for the natural world that led him to earn a B.S. in biology from Ricardo Palma University and an M.S. in ecotourism from Agraria University. From 2003 to 2005, he worked at the Field Museum in Chicago, managing international conservation programs and leading rapid biological inventories in Cuba and remote Amazonian regions.

His guiding career began with nighttime forest walks in the Amazon, where he developed a talent for interpreting the rainforest’s hidden life. He soon expanded his work to designing sustainable ecotourism programs and managing logistics for film crews in Peru’s Tambopata National Reserve. Over the years, he has worked as a fixer and expedition leader for the BBC, Icon Films and Galatee Films, sharing the Amazon’s wonders with global audiences. Now, he brings his expertise to Nat Hab as the Expedition Leader on the Great Amazon River Cruise.

Guillermo has led expeditions from the Amazon to Antarctica, navigating the Orinoco and exploring some of the world’s most biodiverse regions. He has collaborated with NGOs on conservation and ecotourism, working closely with Indigenous communities in the Amazon and beyond, including Sri Lanka. His work bridges adventure, education and conservation, offering travelers a deeper connection to the natural world.
