Eric Ramirez 2022
Eric’s fascination with the natural world began in childhood. As a boy, he pored over books about dinosaurs—but it was the colossal marine reptiles of prehistoric oceans that left a lasting impression. That early passion for aquatic life eventually steered him toward a career rooted in exploration and science.
At 18, Eric moved to La Paz, Baja California Sur, to pursue a lifelong interest in marine biology. Over the next five years, he studied the vital role of scientists in society while cultivating a deep respect for sharks. He spent more than two years researching the feeding habits of several shark species, gaining hands-on experience in the field. After graduation, he worked in a genetics lab, but the call of the ocean proved too strong to ignore.
Driven by a desire to connect people with the natural world, Eric shifted his focus to science communication and became a naturalist guide. For five years, he led marine tours in the rich waters of the Sea of Cortez, interpreting whale shark behavior, spotting seabirds, and guiding guests through one of the world’s most biodiverse marine ecosystems.
He now also leads monarch butterfly expeditions in the high-altitude forests of central Mexico, bringing travelers face-to-face with one of nature’s most extraordinary migrations.
Outside of guiding, Eric is an avid photographer, diver and hiker who spends his free time exploring trails with his dog or training for trail runs. His life is guided by curiosity, discovery, connection and a deep love for wild places.
