Protecting Elephants in South Africa

Meet the Scientists

This project is led by scientists dedicated to understanding and protecting South Africa’s elephant populations and the ecosystems they inhabit. Through elephant identification, population monitoring and behavioral observations in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, their research examines how elephants use their habitat, interact with their environment and influence the surrounding landscape. Additional research and conservation activities in the Greater Kruger region provide valuable insights into elephant movements and management. Together, these efforts help inform conservation strategies that support healthy elephant populations, protect critical habitats and promote the long-term sustainability of South Africa’s wildlife and ecosystems.
