About Earthwatch Expeditions
Discovery. Adventure. Impact.
Earthwatch Expeditions offers immersive, hands-on field experiences where participant researchers work alongside leading scientists studying wildlife, ecosystems and environmental change around the world. Since 1971, Earthwatch has connected people with scientists worldwide, inviting them into the work of scientific discovery as they help gather data that drive long-term environmental studies, empowering them with the knowledge they need to conserve the planet.
Each expedition is built around active scientific research led by scientific experts at the forefront of their disciplines. Participants learn the questions guiding the work, the methods used in the field, and how discoveries emerge through sustained investigation.
The result is extraordinary wildlife encounters paired with direct participation in the the science that shapes how we understand and protect the natural world.
Through long-standing partnerships, Earthwatch Expeditions immerses travelers in wildlife habitats, research stations and field sites that are typically closed to the general public.
Participate in Hands-On Field Research
As part of a small field team, you’ll join researchers studying wildlife populations, ecosystem dynamics and environmental change. As a field assistant, you’ll record observations, monitor species and collect data that contributes to ongoing scientific studies.
Expedition teams are intentionally small so every participant can take part in real fieldwork. You'll learn research techniques, ask questions and be an integral part of the study.
You might track wildlife, monitor nesting sea turtles, survey biodiversity or record ecological data in landscapes ranging from tropical forests and remote coastlines to sweeping savannas and desert ecosystems.
Extraordinary Wildlife. Conservation Science.
Earthwatch Expeditions combine remarkable wildlife encounters with direct participation in conservation science.
Participants experience wildlife within the ongoing context of ongoing field studies, gaining a deeper understanding of the ecosystems that sustain them. You'll leave with unforgettable wildlife encounters and the knowledge that your efforts helped support conservation efforts around the world.
