Physical Requirements
Earthwatch Expeditions offers access to some of the most wondrous nature encounters the world has to offer. Many take place in destinations that are wild and remote, with varying physical demands and limited medical facilities. All field research trips may not be suitable for every traveler. In order to participate on this expedition, you must comfortably and reliably be able to execute all physical requirements as noted below.

Trip Pace
This trip includes both boat-based and beach-based research over seven days
Much of the sea turtle research activity takes place at night
Sleep schedules may shift to accommodate nighttime patrols and daytime rest periods
Daily plans remain flexible based on weather, tides and research needs
Several days may include multiple activity periods over both day and night
Walk up to a maximum of 6–8 miles during night patrols on soft sand
Walk up to 2–3 hours during daytime surveys
Traverse uneven beach terrain in darkness or low light
Kneel, crouch or get low to the ground to assist with nest-related research
Carry a small daypack with water and personal items
Tolerate heat, humidity, insects and extended time outdoors
Ground transportation by van or minibus
Boat travel for marine turtle research
Local transfers between accommodations and research areas
Boat outings may involve exposed, hot or choppy conditions
Guests must be able to board and exit a small boat in shallow water
Optional in-water participation may be available for strong swimmers
Have good balance and stability
Walk unassisted on soft and uneven terrain
Enter and exit vehicles and boats without assistance
Be comfortable functioning in low-light conditions
Daytime temperatures typically range from the mid-80s to upper 90s °F
Evenings are generally cooler, typically around 60–70 °F
The rainy season generally runs from July to mid-November
The dry season is typically warm, windy and dry from December through March
This trip takes place at sea level, with no elevation-related concerns
