Nina Gerber

Nina was born and raised in a small village in Switzerland. She developed a fascination with nature and wildlife as a child, often dragging her family members out of bed early in the mornings to watch wildlife she had spotted. An astute young observer, Nina was intrigued as to why there are so many different species of various animals, and how they interact with their environment. Fueled by her intense curiosity about nature, she knew early on she wanted to become biologist. Her studies, which continued to spark a deep interest in the interaction of living things, ultimately led to a PhD in evolutionary ecology. Nina's adventures as a scientist involved work and travel in various countries investigating a variety of organisms, from water fleas to wolves. After researching the movement of marine organisms in Australia and Papua New Guinea, she returned to Europe to study the impact of wolf reintroduction to native ecosystems, specifically how they influence deer movements and populations. In addition to her scientific research projects, she has an expansive career as a naturalist educator—leading excursions, teaching at her local university, participating in outreach events, and most recently, guiding nature expeditions in Swiss homeland for Natural Habitat Adventures. In her free time, Nina enjoys birdwatching, dancing and playing rugby.
