Born to a pair of ski bums in the Montana, Lindsey’s earliest memories consist of being toted around in a backpack as her parents carved fresh tracks in the snow. With a sketchbook under her arm and a big black dog at her side, Lindsey spent many days exploring the seemingly endless ranchland behind her childhood home, looking for animal tracks and sketching anything that caught her eye. A curiosity of the natural world and a spark for adventure has followed her since. At College of the Atlantic in Maine, she studied Human Ecology and Animal Behavior, specializing in large mammals. She spent several seasons working around the world on a variety of field projects; black bears in northern Maine, whales and seabirds on North Atlantic Islands, humpback whales in Alaska, and Heaviside’s dolphins in Namibia. She is particularly passionate about large mammals and topics of social behavior and group structure, and has presented her work at several scientific conferences. Coupling interests in science and education, she began teaching college field courses and working as a naturalist. She strongly believes that people will protect what they care about. Guiding has allowed Lindsey to share the sense of remoteness and wild that she loves. By facilitating these experiences, she hopes that others will be inspired to become stewards of the environment.
