Greg McCormack

For a New York-born boy, Greg McCormack has developed an exceptional wilderness adventure pedigree. He sprouted in the cement cracks of Brooklyn before being transplanted as a seedling and growing into an energetic, outdoor-loving sapling in the Appalachian forests of Connecticut. He spread his canopy branches in California, blossoming as an undergraduate student at the University of California at San Diego and Humboldt State, and even propagated a branch graft at the University of Maine, Orono. Greg developed a deep fascination with remote and pristine ecosystems and dynamic cultures. Hi penchant for exploring drew him to bicycle the entire length of the Americas—over 18,000 rugged, adventurous miles through 20 countries—from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to Ushuaia, Argentina. He also lived and worked in Peru for a year.

Greg's passion for sharing the wonders of the natural world with others has guided his work as a naturalist and educator. He has developed programs for multiple organizations, including the birding guide for the Audubon Society. He worked as an Expedition Leader aboard small-ship adventure cruises with Zegrahm. He has been a naturalist ranger in a dozen national parks and California state parks. During his recent 5-year stint as a marine educator with NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), Greg trained national park managers from the Galapagos, Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica on sustainable tourism. He has worked as an Alaskan river guide, kayak expedition leader, and as a divemaster throughout much of the South Pacific. An avid birder, scuba diver, kayaker and trail runner, Greg is inspired by the words of Henry David Thoreau: "In wildness is the preservation of the world." He currently resides in Monterey on the central California coast.
