Ashwin was born and raised in the Indian city of Mysore, an urban metropolis surrounded in every direction by forests, which he often forayed into in search of wildlife. Although he earned a master's degree in sociology, Ashwin's true passion was always nature and wildlife, and he spent more time watching birds, butterflies and elephants than in the classroom. He started his career as a production assistant for a film about king cobras and continued in filmmaking for many years before becoming a wildlife researcher and conservationist. He has supported the creation of reserves for endangered species such as lion-tailed macaques, tigers and Asian elephants, which in turn has strengthened protection for the forests these species call home.
Ashwin joined Nat Hab as an Expedition Leader in 2022. Still based out of Mysore, he leads adventures in the jungles of south and central India, plus snow leopard expeditions in the Himalayas of Ladakh. In his free time, you can find Ashwin working in his rooftop garden, birding around his hometown and spending time with elephants.

E. Kuo "Ash was a wonderful leader, taking into consideration everyone's needs and always helping and making sure that everyone was happy. He was very knowledgeable and photography focused."
J. Maxwell "Ash was an outstanding guide and photo instructor. He took his time to ensure that all of us could find the snow leopards and other animals and that we were set up to take great pictures."
H. Oswald "We had a great trip with Ash as our Expedition Leader, with a memorable number of snow leopard and other wildlife sightings. Ash provided attentive care to everyone throughout both internal flight processes, helping us get through the entire check-in process, security lines, and paperwork. Being a Photo Pro trip, Ash was excellent at working with the varying skill levels and interests among the group. He continuously checked in with each guest during sightings to make sure we were getting the shot, and he made helpful recommendations on settings. He also remained close by whenever any guest seemed to be feeling the conditions or elevation more at any given time."
