The greatest gift bestowed upon Russell was his father’s love and passion for wild places. Annual childhood vacations to Kruger introduced the sights, sounds and smells of the great African wilderness and left an indelible impression on him. Boarding school in the Eastern Cape of South Africa provided him with endless happy hours exploring the veld, and befriending young Xhosa boys who taught him the finer arts of bush lore and tracking. A Diploma in Nature Conservation ensured him a job in the elite Natal Parks Board where he rose to the position of Officer in Charge of Wilderness Trails. This experience ingrained in him a love for people and reinforced the deep connection that exists between humans and nature. After further pursuing a B.A. in psychology, anthropology and communications, Russell has guided for the past twenty years.
