Physical Requirements
Earthwatch Expeditions offers access to some of the most wondrous nature encounters the world has to offer. Many take place in destinations that are wild and remote, with varying physical demands and limited medical facilities. All field research trips may not be suitable for every traveler. In order to participate on this expedition, you must comfortably and reliably be able to execute all physical requirements as noted below.

Full, active days during the research portion of the itinerary (Days 4–7)
Early mornings and evening/night excursions are common
Midday breaks are planned depending on heat and research schedule
Daily plans are flexible and may shift based on weather, wildlife activity and research priorities
Walk 1–3 miles per day on uneven, natural terrain when doing land transects
Navigate muddy, wet and potentially slippery forest trails
Step in and out of small boats in variable water conditions
Maintain balance on boat decks and uneven surfaces
Smaller boats may require stepping onto riverbanks or uneven surfaces
Stand for extended periods
Bend, crouch or kneel during research activities
Carry a small daypack with water and personal items and small research equipment
Commercial flights between Lima and Iquitos
Motorized riverboat travel throughout the expedition
Small motorized skiffs and canoes for fieldwork
Be able to move independently on uneven terrain
Be comfortable boarding and exiting boats without assistance
Maintain balance in wet, humid conditions
Daytime temperatures typically range from 82–95°F
High humidity is constant
Rain is possible year-round
Sun exposure can be intense on the water
Boat travel may involve sun exposure, heat and occasional rain
This trip takes place at or near sea level, with no elevation-related concerns.
