Physical Requirements
Earthwatch Expeditions offers access to some of the most wondrous nature encounters the world has to offer. Many take place in destinations that are wild and remote, with varying physical demands and limited medical facilities. All field research trips may not be suitable for every traveler. In order to participate on this expedition, you must comfortably and reliably be able to execute all physical requirements as noted below.

Trip Pace
This trip includes a combination of boat-based research, coastal exploration, and inland excursions over 7 days
Several days are spent fully on the water during shark research activities
Daily plans remain flexible based on weather, sea conditions, and research needs
Research schedules may shift in response to conditions, equipment, and field priorities
Guests should expect full, immersive days with a mix of structured and adaptive activities

Guests should be able to:
Walk 2–4 hours during jungle hikes and coastal exploration
Traverse uneven terrain on forest trails, including inclines and potentially muddy conditions (as in Cockscomb Basin)
Enter and exit the water from shore or boat during snorkeling or field activities
Maintain balance on a moving boat in variable sea conditions
Carry a small daypack with water and personal items
Tolerate heat, humidity, sun exposure, insects, and extended time outdoors
Travel includes a combination of:
Ground transportation by van or minibus
Boat travel for shark research and coastal exploration
Local transfers between accommodations and activity sites
Please note:
Boat outings may involve exposed, hot, or choppy conditions
Guests must be able to board and exit a small boat, sometimes in shallow water
Full days on the water may have limited facilities (no onboard bathroom)
Snorkeling and in-water activities may be available for confident swimmers
Due to the nature of the terrain, boat travel, and physical fieldwork, this trip is not suitable for travelers with limited mobility.
Guests must:
Have good balance and stability
Walk unassisted on uneven and natural terrain
Enter and exit vehicles and boats without assistance
Be comfortable working in outdoor, remote environments
Conditions in coastal Belize are warm to hot and humid year-round.
Daytime temperatures are typically high, with strong sun exposure
Brief periods of intense rain are possible, particularly during the wet season
Tropical storms may occur seasonally
Guests should be prepared for heat, humidity, sun, and changing weather conditions
