Enarau Research Conservancy
Location
Enarau Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya
Set within the Enarau Wildlife Conservancy among acacia trees and along a seasonal river, this research camp places guests directly where daily fieldwork unfolds. Wildlife often moves through or near camp—zebras and impala grazing at a distance, vervet and colobus monkeys calling from the trees, and the occasional warthog or bushbuck passing by.
Accommodations include two single beds per unit. Interiors are simple and functional, designed for rest after long days in the field, with practical touches such as wardrobes for gear and provided toiletries. Each unit includes an en suite bathroom with a flush toilet, sink and hot-water shower. Shaded verandas outside each room offer a place to relax with a morning coffee or unwind in the evening while looking out over the woodlands.
Meals are served in an open-air dining area that functions as the camp’s central gathering space, where participants come together to reflect on the day and attend informal presentations. Breakfasts may include eggs, pancakes and Kenyan mandazi (fried doughnuts), along with fresh fruit such as mango, watermelon, papaya and passion fruit. Lunches and dinners feature a rotating menu of rice, pasta, potatoes, chapati and ugali (maize porridge), paired with meat or lentils, beans and seasonal vegetables.
