Nat Hab's Electric Vehicle in Peru
In April 2025, Nat Hab took another step to further our mission of conservation through exploration when we introduced the first all-electric vehicle (EV) for tourism use in Peru—just two years after the launch of our first electric African safari vehicle in Botswana. This step makes Nat Hab the first tourism operator in Peru to integrate electric technology into its transportation.
Powered by a high-capacity battery, our electric van eliminates the need for gasoline or diesel fuel, significantly reducing carbon emissions. The EV is an integral part of our Machu Picchu & the Sacred Valley adventure, providing eco-friendly transportation throughout a large portion of the itinerary, approximately 300 miles per trip. In addition to moving our travelers, the EV also plays a vital role behind the scenes, managing luggage logistics.
Nat Hab partnered with the Chinese company Maxus to import a spacious, passenger-ready EV tailored to its Peru tourism programs. Benefiting the environment by creating a cleaner alternative to traditional vehicles, the EV's quiet, smooth ride also enhances the guest experience. Not only can we observe nature without the drone and odor of a diesel engine, but you're better able to hear our Expedition Leaders talk about what we are seeing.
As part of Nat Hab’s EV initiative, we installed an electric charging station in coordination with our partner, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, on the premises of this eco-conscious luxury hotel where our groups stay in the Sacred Valley. We are currently working to establish a second charging station in Cusco city. These are the first-ever EV charging stations in Cusco province, marking a major step forward in making sustainable travel a reality in this popular destination.
We believe emission-free mobility is the future of environmentally responsible travel. As we produce more electric vehicles for use on our adventures, powered by renewable energy, we hope to inspire other tourism operators to follow our lead.
