M/V Natural Habitat Ursus
Our privately chartered small expedition ship, the Natural Habitat Ursus, provides accommodations for up to eight guests on our Alaska Grizzly Encounter: Kodiak to Katmai adventure. Ideally suited for exploring the remote waters of coastal Katmai National Park, the 73-foot-long Ursus (Latin nomenclature for "bear") sleeps eight guests in four double cabins with upper/lower berths. Each cabin has a wash basin, while two bathrooms, each with toilet and shower, are shared between the four cabins. The galley and dining space are the site for conversation over creative home-cooked meals prepared by our onboard chef. Fresh Alaskan seafood, frequently including halibut, salmon and Kodiak scallops, is a highlight. The ship also has a small library, computer and DVD player, with a selection of regional books and documentaries. With Ursus providing our accommodations in the marine wilderness, we are able to watch brown bears in exceptional solitude—both from the ship, and on excursions ashore—in some of the world's most pristine wilderness.
