Day 1: Arrive in Marrakesh, once a crossroads of the caravan trade

  • Explore the walled Medina and Jemaa el-Fnaa, a gathering place for vendors, musicians and storytellers

  • Settle into a traditional riad centered around a quiet inner courtyard

  • Join your Expedition Leader for a welcome dinner of slow-cooked tagines, fresh bread and mint tea

Day 2: Cross the High Atlas along an old caravan route

  • Travel over Tizi n’Tichka Pass, North Africa’s highest paved road

  • Explore the adobe corridors and shaded courtyards of Taourirt Kasbah

  • Follow the Draa Valley’s ribbon of date palms to the desert town of Zagora

Day 3: Meet the potters and silversmiths of the Draa Valley

  • Watch Tamegroute artisans fire green-glazed ceramics in palm-frond kilns

  • Enter an ancient Koranic library holding thousands of rare manuscripts

  • Share mint tea with Amazigh silversmiths in Amezrou, once a stop on the caravan route from Timbuktu

Day 4: Reach the remote dunes of Erg Chigaga

  • Travel by 4x4 beyond the last pavement into the southern Sahara

  • Walk beside camels and local guides at the traditional pace of desert travel

  • Spend the night at an isolated camp beneath the Milky Way

Day 5: Follow the old Salt Road by camel caravan through the deep Sahara

  • Walk with a small camel caravan while learning to read tracks, wind patterns and desert plants

  • Taste abadir, a savory bread baked in hot ash beneath the sand

  • Cross the salt pans of Lake Iriki in search of fossils and hardy desert vegetation

Day 6: Sunrise in the Sahara before the palm oasis of Skoura

  • Watch sunrise spread across the dunes before departing Erg Chigaga

  • Drive through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs past earthen fortresses still inhabited today

  • Arrive among Skoura’s date, olive and almond groves, cultivated since the 12th century

Day 7: Learn how hidden water channels sustain the Skoura oasis

  • Walk through the palm groves with your Expedition Leader to see the ancient khettara irrigation system

  • Observe layered cultivation, with date palms above fruit trees and vegetables

  • Try a foot-powered wheel with one of Skoura’s last traditional potters

Day 8: Cook Moroccan dishes in a family home

  • Balance spices by scent and taste while preparing classic recipes with local hosts

  • Tend traditional clay ovens as the meal slowly comes together

  • Visit Kasbah Amridil to see how grain stores, family quarters and water management supported oasis life

Day 9: Explore Ait Ben Haddou on the old caravan road

  • Walk through the fortified mud-brick village used as a setting for Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator

  • Visit a museum devoted to Amazigh music, art and oral traditions

  • Cross the High Atlas into the Ourika Valley of orchards, villages and waterfalls

Day 10: Walk through Amazigh villages beneath Mount Toubkal

  • Follow working footpaths past fields, stone hamlets and mountain pastures

  • Watch for Barbary sheep, golden eagles and bearded vultures on the high slopes

  • Share a home-cooked lunch with an Amazigh family

Day 11: Tea, mountain paths and a hammam in the High Atlas

  • Gather mint and herbs with local hosts before learning the steps of Amazigh tea-making

  • Experience a traditional hammam ritual of steam, washing and exfoliation

  • Or walk shepherd paths with your Expedition Leader beneath snowcapped peaks

Day 12: Depart Marrakesh after crossing Morocco’s deserts, oases and mountains

  • Descend from the High Atlas to the plains

  • Connect with onward flights from Marrakesh
