Going on safari with me can be a little annoying. I have been known to shout out, “STOP THE TRUCK!!!,” getting everyone excited that we are about to encounter a lion or leopard dancing the Macarena to celebrate taking down a Cape buffalo.
“This was my second trip with Nat Hab and the first time I had ventured to choose the photo itinerary. I thought I would be out of my depth, teaming up with “photo experts.” I consider myself to be an “okay” photographer but certainly no expert.
“Brazil has always been one of those places I have wanted to visit, but I questioned what there was to see in terms of wildlife. When I was on a Galapagos expedition with Nat Hab, our photography guide was Zapa.
In tough times, I think about my mother. I know that might seem odd for a fella in his 50s, but, like all moms, she was pretty special.
Most people are thrilled to go on a safari in Africa, knowing they will see the iconic wildlife they have only seen in images or in zoos all their lives. Viewing zebras, giraffes, elephants, lions, and herds of beautiful creatures like impala and kudu in the bush is, no doubt, exhilarating.
“Many years ago, my wife and I spent one day (not NEARLY enough time) visiting Glacier National Park. We were so struck by the park’s beauty and majesty, even on that short trip, that when I got the chance to go back to the park, this time with Nat Hab, I jumped at the chance.
I had the chance to go on a trip of a lifetime to Namibia with Natural Habitat Adventures. I had seen photos of the amazing Namibian landscapes and was very excited to experience them first hand.
Nat Hab has spent more than 30 years scouting Costa Rica’s Pacific and Caribbean coastlines, rain forests, cloud forests, national parks and wildlife refuges for nature encounters off the standard tourist track.
Zero degrees: another balmy November day up in Churchill, Manitoba. I gaze across the subarctic tundra and over the smooth granite slopes that lead down to the Hudson Bay. Thickets of willow and thin pine dot an otherwise snow-white landscape which, mere weeks before, was void of ice and snow.
Beth was busy washing dishes at home when she saw an unknown call come in from Boulder, Colorado. Normally, she wouldn’t answer this type of call, but she had been anxiously waiting for this moment for two years. “I guess you could say it was the most exciting phone call I’ve ever received,” Beth said.
Have you ever heard someone describe a trip as a “religious experience”? Before I left for Argentina, that’s how Patagonia was explained to me – a religious experience. I thought about this a lot on my way down to one of the southernmost parts of the world.
Where will your travels take you in 2020? It’s probably one of the most pleasant questions to ponder. I hope that you’ll go to places both far and near. Wherever you’re going, you’re sure to make some amazing memories. But as every traveler knows, memory can be—what I like to describe as—“fluid.”
