Wallaby, Australia South, Asia

Know Before You Go

Wallaby Facts | Australia South Wildlife Guide

There are over 40 species of small macropods identified as wallabies, and they are primarily differentiated from kangaroos by size. Wallaby is a broad category broken down into brush wallabies, rock wallabies, hare wallabies and scrub wallabies. All of these species are herbivores that are hunted for meat and fur. As their original habitat diminishes, they are often found grazing in urban and suburban areas. They are so successful in sharing habitat with humans that they are considered vermin by many Australians.
