Group Size
Limited to 12 travelers
A key element of this trip is the small group size, which allows us to access places and experiences larger groups can’t. With a maximum of 12 travelers, we’re able to foster meaningful connections with the people we meet and the places we encounter, while keeping our impact lighter. The intimate group size also opens the door to more personal experiences—from home-hosted meals and conversations with local guides to visits with artisans, farmers, plantation workers and other community members who offer a deeper sense of South India’s culture, traditions and daily life.
Take this trip on a private basis, traveling exclusively with your immediate family, multi-generational family or group of friends.

Important Information About This Trip
There are several aspects of this trip that guests should be prepared for, including long overland travel days, varied road conditions, early starts and active excursions. These are necessary to connect the historic sites of the Deccan with the Western Ghats and Kerala’s backwaters.
Some travel days involve long drives, particularly between Hampi and Mysuru and as we travel from Mysuru through Bandipur to Wayanad. Visits and meals are incorporated along the way where possible.
In Wayanad, guests should be prepared for forest walks on natural terrain, including a nighttime walk by flashlight and a moderate hike through tropical wet evergreen forest. Trails may be uneven, wet or slippery.
Guests must be comfortable boarding and disembarking a variety of small boats, including traditional coracles, a shikkara and a snake boat. The Kerala program also includes walking along earthen bunds between waterways and rice fields.
Our route through Bandipur Tiger Reserve is a transit rather than a wildlife safari. We keep watch for elephants, spotted deer, langurs and other animals from our vehicle, but stopping within the reserve is not permitted and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
The journey from Wayanad to Kumarakom combines an overland transfer with travel aboard India’s Vande Bharat Express. Train schedules and local conditions may require adjustments to the day’s timing.
Mandatory Insurance
Since the areas we travel to are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require that all guests have, at minimum, medical evacuation insurance for this program. This is for the safety of all guests. We require that your chosen independent insurance plan includes at least $250,000 in medical evacuation coverage.
To protect your investment and to provide peace of mind while you travel, we also strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment to trip cancellations and delays and lost luggage. Please contact our office if you would like more information about the medical evacuation and comprehensive travel insurance policies we offer by calling 800-543-8917.
