Travelers must be able to walk 3 miles unassisted along a variety of terrain and should expect to walk for a total of 2-4 miles per day
Walks and tours range from 1-3 miles each; travelers should expect to be on foot for 1-3 hours on several days
Terrain includes gravel, pavement and dirt paths, sometimes on uneven ground; travelers should also be prepared to walk through large airports, crowded city streets, and cultural sites with occasionally uneven stone flooring and stairs
Most walks are at a leisurely pace with guided interpretation
There are limited opportunities for additional or extended walks at our lodges for more active travelers
Transportation & Vehicles
Expect 6–8 hours (with a break) in a vehicle on one transfer; other transfers can be 3-4 hours.
Most long transfers will be by minibus or small coach. A few transfers and shorter journeys may be by Toyota MUV.
In Kerala there is one four-hour train journey. The journey is in an air-conditioned carriage/coach.
Travelers are responsible for managing their own carry-on luggage through busy airports and may need to climb stairs to board planes or access terminals.
Not appropriate for travelers using wheelchairs or walkers
Travelers using canes must be physically independent or travel with a companion who can assist them
Daytime temps range from cool to 100+°F, depending on season
Overnight temps are cooler; layers and a winter hat are needed Jan–Mar
Jan–Mar: cooler mornings and evenings, and warm days.
Mar–April: temps begin to rise, occasionally exceeding 100°F
