Drew DotyConservation Groups Operations and Partnerships Manager
Drew’s love for the outdoors began in childhood, growing up in rural southwestern Virginia and the Colorado foothills. Early adventures exploring the forests of Appalachia, camping in the Rocky Mountains and swimming in the ocean fostered a lasting connection to the natural world. That foundation shaped his commitment to conservation, travel and meaningful work outdoors.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Philosophy with a concentration in environmental science from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Drawn to big-picture questions about purpose and impact, Drew studied abroad four times. A research program in northern Tanzania proved especially formative. Watching the sunrise from the rim of Ol Donyo Lengai, overlooking the Serengeti and Rift Valley, solidified his sense of direction and global perspective.
After graduating, Drew joined the Hawaii Institute for Pacific Agriculture before managing a small winery in Santa Barbara. He later worked with No Barriers USA, leading participants of varied abilities and backgrounds on more than 25 backcountry expeditions across 10 countries. He then joined Colorado State University, where he managed travel programs during the pandemic, strengthening his expertise in logistics and risk management. Drew brought this operational experience to Natural Habitat Adventures, where he supports travel planning and program execution.
Outside of work, Drew enjoys throwing pottery, practicing macro photography and leading wilderness yoga retreats. An avid ocean enthusiast, he spends time sailing, swimming and scuba diving. He lives in northern California with his husband and two cats.
