Angie FuentesInclusive Pathways Intern
Raised throughout Southern California, Angie spent much of her childhood exploring local parks and beaches with her large blended family. Early experiences camping, hiking and stargazing with her father sparked a lasting connection to the outdoors and laid the foundation for her interest in natural spaces.
While studying political science at California State University San Marcos, Angie visited Yosemite National Park and completed her first backpacking trip. Seeing Yosemite's granite landscapes firsthand transformed a casual interest in the outdoors into a deeper appreciation for public lands and conservation. A subsequent season in Granby, Colorado, leading guided hikes and supporting programs at Snow Mountain Ranch further shaped her career path and ultimately led to a move to Colorado.
Angie earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources from Colorado State University. Drawn to the relationship between people and the natural world, she focused on conservation, community engagement and environmental interpretation. She is also a Certified Interpretive Guide and California Naturalist.
Her professional experience includes environmental education, interpretation and community engagement. Most recently, Angie served as a Community Engagement Assistant at The Gardens on Spring Creek in Fort Collins, developing inclusive environmental education programs, coordinating community partnerships and expanding access to nature-based learning opportunities. She has also worked as a bilingual field instructor at Cal-Wood Education Center, leading outdoor education programs for multigenerational families.
Angie has traveled extensively throughout the western United States, including Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and California. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, camping, paddleboarding, biking, photography and reading. As a first-generation Mexican-American, she is passionate about helping more people connect with nature and conservation.
