Our Story
Alexandre Paiement
Alexandre grew up in a small rural town in Quebec’s Laurentian Upland, where surrounding forests sparked an early interest in wildlife. He became particularly drawn to species that live in remote environments. His first visit to the northwestern shore of Hudson Bay cemented his interest in the Arctic, where he has now spent more than a decade conducting fieldwork and leading expeditions.
He holds a technical degree in Wildlife Management and a bachelor’s degree in biology with a focus on wildlife management. His studies in wildlife ecology, field techniques and habitat management provided a foundation for years of research in northern ecosystems.
As a wildlife biologist with the Government of Quebec, Alexandre leads field research and manages conservation projects throughout Nunavik. He works with Indigenous communities, universities and government agencies on wildlife management and has extensive field experience with muskoxen, barren-ground caribou, polar bears, rough-legged hawks and gyrfalcons. He has also led expeditions across the Canadian and Greenland Arctic, drawing on his background in natural history, field science and wilderness safety.
Outside of work, Alexandre is an avid birder whose travels have taken him to countries around the world in search of new species and habitats. He is also a mountain biker and has contributed several hundred volunteer hours to building and maintaining trails. He continues to spend several months each year traveling and working in the North.
