Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Costa Rica, where rainforest adventures await

  • Stay at a luxurious hacienda-style hotel surrounded by gardens and nature trails

  • Join your Expedition Leader and fellow travelers for a welcome dinner

Day 2: Reach the rainforest edge of remote Corcovado

  • Fly by private charter to the remote Osa Peninsula, then boat to a beach landing

  • Arrive at Corcovado Wilderness Lodge, bordering Costa Rica's wildest national park

  • Walk a private rainforest trail looking for sloths, monkeys and scarlet macaws

Days 3 to 4: Explore Costa Rica's last great wilderness

  • Walk ancient rainforest trails with rich interpretation from your Expedition Leader

  • Search for macaws, toucans and all four of Costa Rica's monkey species across 13 ecosystems

  • Snorkel off Cano Island when seas are calm, watching for sea turtles

Days 5 to 6: Primary rainforest beneath Arenal Volcano

  • Explore the rainforest trails around Arenal Observatory Lodge with your Expedition Leader

  • Hike to Danta Waterfall, a cascade tumbling into a clear pool

  • Cross hanging bridges for eye-level canopy and Arenal Volcano views

Day 7: Sloths in the canopy and Costa Rica's coffee traditions

  • Walk the private Mariolas Trail looking for two- and three-toed sloths

  • Visit a small family farm to learn how coffee and chocolate are made

  • Enjoy free time in La Fortuna before dinner at a local restaurant

Day 8: Climb into the misted forests of Monteverde

  • Drive into the cloud forests of Monteverde along Costa Rica's Continental Divide

  • Arrive at a secluded ecolodge surrounded by forest and birdlife

  • Learn from your Expedition Leader about the conservation of the rare three-wattled bellbird

Day 9: Cloud forest wildlife from canopy to forest floor

  • Walk the Skywalk's elevated bridges high into the cloud forest canopy

  • Explore the private Curi-Cancha Reserve for quetzals, monkeys and coatis

  • Look for giant strangler figs and hundreds of orchid species throughout the forest

Day 10: Return to San Jose

  • Return by road to San Jose for homeward flights
