Polar Bears of Arctic Nunavut

Two scheduled flights and two charter flights

Relaxing pace – more moving around in Winnipeg and Churchill, but a more relaxed and wildlife-dependent experience in Nunavut. In Nunavut, there's lights out and remain in cabins from 10pm – 7:30am

Travelers must be able to walk at least 1 mile unassisted over uneven terrain wearing heavy cold weather gear. Guests must have the ability to walk independently and efficiently for safety reasons

Travelers must be able to walk up and down stairs to board small planes and access accommodations

Terrain is often very uneven and within the camp area can include snow, sand, mud, and uneven terrain. Optional walks may include sand and slippery rocks

Travelers must have the mobility to comfortably get in and out of heavy winter gear (boots and parkas) many times a day. Boots cannot be worn indoors at our polar bear camp, so travelers should expect to remove them each time they enter the lodge

Scheduled flight between Winnipeg and Churchill

Charter flight on a small single-engine Otter plane between Churchill and Nunavut, requiring ability to get up steep stairs and load into a small airplane

Travelers must climb in and out of vehicles using balance and upper body strength

Not appropriate for travelers using wheelchairs, walkers, or canes

Nunavut camp is located in a remote area without nearby medical facilities, and due to restrictions on night flying, emergency medical evacuation may not be possible until daylight hours

Daytime temps range from 14–35°F in Oct–Nov

Nighttime temps more likely between –10 to 25°F in Oct–Nov

Snow and high winds are possible during the entire season, with increasing likelihood into November

We provide appropriate snow gear and boots for comfort, and all buildings at camp are comfortably heated
