2026 Itinerary—14 Days

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Tana, gateway to wild Madagascar

  • Tour the Queen's Palace and Photography Museum on an optional outing

  • Gather for a welcome dinner with your Expedition Leader

Days 2 to 4: First lemurs in Madagascar's premier rainforest

  • Hike the rainforest to hear and see the indri, the largest lemur

  • Search by night for chameleons, tree frogs and brown mouse lemurs

  • Photograph habituated lemurs up close at Lemur Island sanctuary

Days 5 to 6: Rainforest research and lemurs at Ranomafana

  • Fly by charter to the colonial hilltop town of Fianarantsoa

  • Hike cloud forest and waterfalls in search of bamboo lemurs

  • Look for mouse lemurs and amphibians on a guided night walk

Days 7 to 8: Canyon country and ring-tailed lemurs in the south

  • Watch ring-tailed lemurs feeding at Anja Community Reserve

  • Hike the sandstone canyons of Isalo among octopus-foot pachypodia

  • Look up for some of the planet's clearest stargazing at night

Days 9 to 10: Into the spiny forest of southern Madagascar

  • Fly by private charter to the fishing village of Ifaty

  • Explore a spiny forest of octopus trees and barrel-shaped baobabs

  • Watch for the rare Madagascar fish-eagle and grey mouse lemur

Days 11 to 13: Remote forest and coast at Anjajavy reserve

  • Fly by charter to a 17,000-acre private reserve reached only by air

  • Look for Coquerel's sifaka on forest hikes and the lodge grounds

  • Cruise to Moramba Bay's eroded limestone and sea-bound baobabs

Day 14: Final morning before the flight back to Tana

  • Enjoy a leisurely final breakfast at the Anjajavy lodge

  • Fly by charter back to Antananarivo for connecting flights home
