Please note: Alternating trips run in the opposite direction, starting in Bozeman and ending in Jackson.

Itinerary

Day 1: Begin in Jackson, gateway to Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks

  • Arrive in Jackson, an Old West town beneath the Teton Range

  • Join your Expedition Leaders and fellow travelers for a welcome dinner

Day 2: Search for wildlife beneath the jagged Teton peaks

  • Traverse Grand Teton in a custom Safari Cruiser with a pop-top wildlife-viewing roof

  • Look for elk, pronghorn, mule deer and bison across the valley floor

  • Float the Snake River beneath the Tetons, watching for moose, beavers and ospreys

Day 3: Enter Yellowstone's geothermal landscape

  • Search the willow bottomlands of Oxbow Bend for moose and river otters

  • Walk among fumaroles and simmering springs near Old Faithful

  • Learn how Yellowstone became the world's first national park in 1872

Day 4: Track wolves and bears across Yellowstone's Northern Range

  • Watch large herds of bison and elk grazing across Hayden Valley

  • Look into the thousand-foot gorge where Yellowstone Falls plunges below the canyon rim

  • Scan the remote Northern Range for grizzly bears and wolves with guidance from park researchers

Day 5: Search for predators and prey across the Lamar Valley

  • Head into the broad meadows at dawn to look for wolves and grizzly bears

  • Learn how the return of wolves in 1995 helped restore balance to the valley's ecosystem

  • Watch large herds of elk and bison move across the open landscape

Day 6: Walk Mammoth's terraces before returning to Bozeman

  • Explore the travertine terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs, watching for elk nearby

  • Follow the Yellowstone River through Emigrant Canyon into Paradise Valley

  • Join your Expedition Leaders and fellow travelers for a farewell dinner in Bozeman

Day 7: Explore Bozeman before departing for home

  • Visit the Museum of the Rockies, home to Montana's mounted T. rex skeleton

  • Transfer to Bozeman for homeward flights
