Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at the gateway to Utah's red rock canyon country

  • Base in Grand Junction, a wine and farm-to-table hub near Utah's canyons

  • Join your Expedition Leaders and fellow travelers for a welcome dinner in Grand Junction

Day 2: Explore seldom-visited canyons and monoliths

  • Follow Rim Rock Drive past sheer-walled canyons and the sandstone tower of Colorado National Monument

  • Hike across slickrock and through juniper woodland to find fossilized dinosaur tracks

  • Settle into Red Cliffs Lodge, a riverside retreat beneath towering canyon walls outside Moab

Day 3: Hike the remote Needles District and watch the desert sky after dark

  • Walk among the banded sandstone spires of Canyonlands' seldom-visited Needles District

  • View the Colorado River cutting through deep layers of sandstone

  • Identify glittering constellations, planets and the Milky Way with your Expedition Leader

Day 4: Survey the Colorado Plateau from Island in the Sky

  • Hike to cliff-edge Mesa Arch, framing Buck Canyon and the La Sal Mountains

  • Examine the Intestine Man pictograph and nearby rock art near Seven Mile Canyon

  • Stand 2,000 feet above the Colorado River at Dead Horse Point

Day 5: Walk among more than 2,000 sandstone arches

  • Hike to Delicate Arch in the early morning as sunlight moves across the sandstone

  • Follow quieter trails to additional arches with your Expedition Leader

  • Examine Puebloan petroglyphs depicting animals and human figures

Day 6: Follow the Colorado River from Moab to Grand Junction

  • Walk beside the Colorado River at sunrise before leaving your riverside lodge

  • Follow the Upper Colorado River Scenic Byway beneath Castleton Tower and the Fisher Towers

  • Cross the river at the historic Dewey Bridge site before departing from Grand Junction
