Day 1: Arrive in Grand Junction, gateway to the Utah desert

  • Explore red rock canyons and monoliths on an optional tour to Colorado National Monument

  • Join your Expedition Leaders and fellow travelers for a welcome dinner in Grand Junction

Day 2: Reach the high desert canyons along the Colorado River

  • Hike across slickrock and juniper to find fossilized dinosaur tracks in the desert

  • Float the Colorado River on a placid stretch through Castle Valley

  • Check in to Red Cliffs Lodge on the Colorado River well outside Moab

Day 3: Erosion carves red rock into 2,000 sandstone arches

  • Hike to Delicate Arch at first light as sandstone glows red and orange

  • Explore quiet trails to more sandstone arches with your Expedition Leader

  • Study ancient Puebloan petroglyphs of animals and human figures on the canyon walls

Day 4: Remote canyon country by day, brilliant desert stars by night

  • Hike among the banded sandstone spires of the remote Needles District

  • Survey the Colorado River as it carves through deep layers of sandstone

  • Spot constellations and the Milky Way with your Expedition Leader under dark skies

Day 5: Red rock towers glow maroon and gold at first light

  • Walk the Colorado River at sunrise before leaving your riverside lodge

  • Cross the historic Dewey Bridge site on the drive back to Grand Junction
