Fernando Romo Sirvent2006
Fernando has been leading conservation-focused travel expeditions for over 24 years, sharing his deep passion for nature, wildlife photography, and adventure with travelers from around the world. Whether guiding fellow nature enthusiasts or simply exploring with family and friends, Fernando’s love for the natural world is infectious.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Fernando pursued a degree in Marine Biology and later settled in the picturesque coastal town of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. His career as an expedition leader began right after university, leading whale-watching tours in the biodiverse waters of Banderas Bay.
A passionate birder, Fernando’s fascination with birds began 24 years ago when he started photographing them during walks near his home. His "spark bird"—the one that ignited his lifelong passion—was a striking male Painted Bunting, a moment that cemented his love for birdwatching. Today, he is an expert in wildlife expeditions, specializing in the annual Monarch Butterfly migration in the Mexican highlands, as well as birding and nature tours in Patagonia, Galapagos Island, Panama.
Fernando’s enthusiasm and deep knowledge earn him glowing reviews from travelers of all experience levels. Whether guiding first-time photographers, seasoned birders, or eco-travelers eager to learn, he ensures an unforgettable journey filled with wonder, discovery, and respect for the natural world. He shares Natural Habitat Adventures’ belief that responsible travel can benefit local communities and inspire conservation efforts, making every trip not just an adventure but a meaningful contribution to nature.

What Our Guests Say
Fernando was terrific. He went out of his way to make sure we were all comfortable, having a good time, seeing whales and understanding everything about the activity. He was a terrific conversationalist on the tour and at meals. He went out of his way to take us to a release of leatherback sea turtles into the ocean. We have nothing but the highest regard for him.
Fernando was fantastic! He was very professional and kind, extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the natural habitats we encountered. He never got tired of answering the same questions over and over again, and nobody felt left out. Communication was clear and concise, and it was hard to believe he has only spoken English for a short time. He was considerate of each traveler's needs and safety. He is a treasure. If I only had one word to describe Fernando it would be 'joyful'.
Fernando was the best Expedition Leader we have had. He joined the group and shared far more than information about the whale sharks and other environmental topics. Unlike other trips we have been on where the guide met us prior to the morning departure and disappeared upon return, the fact that Fernando joined us for meals and conversations added immeasurably to the experience.
