Know Before You Go

Geology & Ecology of the Canadian Rockies

The Canadian Rockies thrust skyward from the heart of the North American continent. They are the rugged backbone of this region and are a stronghold of hardy wildlife, ancient glaciers and inaccessible alpine peaks. This place demands a sense of adventure, with enough secrets and hidden gems to satiate even the most intrepid explorer’s appetite. In just one day you can investigate deep, sinuous river canyons just a few feet wide, witness enormous herds of elk foraging in a mountain meadow, and walk atop a living, active glacier. This region is so remarkable- and important- that the seven national and provincial parks within the Canadian Rockies have collectively been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
