Physical Requirements

At Nat Hab, we provide access to some of the most wondrous nature encounters the world has to offer. Many take place in destinations that are wild and remote, with varying physical demands and limited medical facilities. All trips may not be suitable for every traveler. In order to participate in this itinerary, travelers must comfortably and reliably be able to execute all physical requirements as noted below.

Trip Pace

  • Visit 2 locations (Quito and the Galapagos Islands) in 10 days

  • Moderately-paced trip with early mornings and 3-4 off-ship activities per day

  • Two commercial flights

  • Travelers are typically up at 7am and in their cabins around 9pm

Walking & Terrain
  • Travelers must be able to walk 2 miles unassisted in hot conditions along a variety of terrain, including uneven dirt paths, sand, and lava rocks

  • Walks range from 1-4 miles each, typically at a leisurely pace with guided interpretation; shorter alternatives may be available depending on the location

  • Occasional wet landings require walking a short distance in shallow water

  • Travelers opting to participate in all land and water activities must be able to handle 3-4 hours of physical activity on several days

  • Travelers must be able to climb stairs aboard the ship; some staircases are narrow and steep

  • February-April: hottest time of year with temps in 80-90s

  • August-October: coolest time of year with temps in 70-80s

  • Quito is at an elevation of 9,350 feet; this trip spends two days in Quito at the beginning of the trip and one day at the end
