Mountain gorilla

Uganda Mountain Gorilla Extension

Itinerary

Day 1: Entebbe, Uganda

Our representative meets you on arrival at the airport and accompanies you on the transfer to Karibu Guest House, a boutique hotel surrounded by tropical gardens, which was once a former presidential residence.

Day 2: Fly to Kihihi / Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Fly this morning from Entebbe to Kihihi and transfer to Mahogany Springs Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the world's most famous destinations for gorilla trekking. You may even catch your first glimpse of mountain gorillas right on the grounds of the lodge, where you will spend the next three nights.

Days 3 & 4: Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast each morning, make the short drive to park headquarters where you'll meet your local guides. They will provide an orientation to your trekking adventure ahead, covering the etiquette of behavior as you spend time among the gorillas. From here, you'll walk or drive a short distance to the starting point of your trek, then head into the dense emerald rain forest on foot with your gorilla trekking guides. The trackers will be out on the mountain ahead of your departure, identifying where the gorillas were seen the night before and pursuing them to a point where you will be able to connect. The trek to the gorillas' current location can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as several hours, depending on how far the gorilla family has traveled. The trek may also involve climbing to altitudes above 7,500 feet. The terrain is rough and at times muddy, though the rewards are profound. Although the hike can be physically demanding, the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery make it worthwhile, even en route. Once the gorillas are located, all fatigue is forgotten, and the experience is often described by our guests as the most profound nature encounter they have ever experienced.

Day 5: Fly to Entebbe / Depart

Fly back to Entebbe this morning, with lunch in the city before your adventure concludes. Then transfer to the airport to connect with departing flights.
