Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Fairbanks on the banks of the Chena River

  • Check in to your downtown hotel after your Southeast Alaska cruise

  • Join your trip leader and traveling companions for a welcome dinner

Day 2: Explore Alaska’s natural and human history at the Museum of the North

  • See Blue Babe, a 36,000-year-old steppe bison preserved in permafrost

  • Follow 11,000 years of Alaska Native history through carved ivory, tools and sealskin parkas

  • Stand beneath a full bowhead whale skeleton suspended above the galleries

Day 3: Ride the Alaska Railroad into the heart of the Alaska Range

  • Travel south in a glass-domed GoldStar car with panoramic views from an outdoor deck

  • Follow the Nenana River through boreal forest to the entrance of Denali National Park

  • Settle into a hillside hotel before an afternoon of guided exploration

Days 4 to 5: Search for grizzlies, wolves, caribou and moose across Denali

  • Watch for wildlife on the Tundra Wilderness Tour

  • Raft the glacial Nenana River through Nenana Canyon

  • Meet sled dogs and hold a puppy at four-time Iditarod winner Jeff King’s Husky Homestead

Day 6: Cross the Alaska Range with a chance to see Denali on the horizon

  • Crest Broad Pass above tree line on the drive south to Anchorage

  • Explore Alaska Native cultures through exhibits, demonstrations and recreated village sites

  • Gather for a farewell dinner at the Hotel Captain Cook

Day 7: Depart Anchorage after your Interior Alaska extension

  • Transfer to the airport for homeward flights
