Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Iceland, gateway to East Greenland

  • Explore compact Reykjavik at your own pace

  • Join your Expedition Leaders for a welcome dinner and preview of the adventure ahead

Day 2: Journey from Iceland’s volcanic landscapes to East Greenland

  • Explore the 4,500-foot Raufarholshellir lava tube

  • Walk among steaming vents at the Seltun geothermal field

  • Fly to Greenland and continue to coastal Tasiilaq

Day 3: Discover East Greenland’s culture and mountain landscapes

  • Tour Tasiilaq and visit the Ammassalik Museum’s Inuit masks, kayaks and sleds

  • Hike into the Valley of Flowers beneath ice-clad peaks

  • Hear a local resident’s perspective on daily life and subsistence traditions in the Arctic

Day 4: Arrive at Nat Hab’s private Base Camp on Sermilik Fjord

  • Travel by boat through iceberg-filled waters

  • Settle into camp, enjoy lunch and prepare your gear for the activities ahead

  • Conditions permitting, kayak or explore the tundra with views toward the Greenland Ice Sheet

Days 5 to 7: Paddle, cruise and hike through East Greenland’s Arctic wilderness

  • Cruise by Zodiac among blue icebergs as large as buildings

  • Kayak beneath glaciers and drifting ice when conditions permit

  • Hike the tundra in search of Arctic foxes and ptarmigan

Day 8: A final morning on Sermilik Fjord and Greenlandic traditions in Kulusuk

  • Explore the tundra near Base Camp one last time

  • Travel to Kulusuk by helicopter or boat past steep valleys and ice-filled waters

  • Walk near the coast and experience traditional Greenlandic drumming and dancing

Day 9: Walk on a Greenland glacier before returning to Iceland

  • Travel by boat to a glacier for a guided walk across the ice

  • Watch for tabular icebergs drifting on the East Greenland Current

  • Explore Kulusuk before flying back to Iceland

Day 10: Depart Iceland after your East Greenland adventure

  • Transfer to Keflavik International Airport for departing flights

Given the expeditionary nature of our trip, on some occasions, adverse conditions may require us to deviate from our intended itinerary, in which case we will provide the best available alternative. And we’ll make a great adventure of it!
