“Our first snorkeling experience in the Galapagos was in Sullivan Bay, Santiago Island. Having snorkeled only once before in my entire life, my “snorkel buddy” and I hung around closer to the shore, watching the colorful fish flit around the rocks.

I am in a river. IN a river. In Alaska at Brooks Falls, and I can’t go anywhere because a bear has plopped herself down 25 yards away from me, my group, and our guide, with the 40-degree water swirling around our wader-clad knees. I am on a river walk.

We were hiking in Andasibe National Park when we came upon this gray bamboo lemur. Gray bamboo lemurs are vertical climbers, and they jump from stalk to stalk in thick bamboo forests. But this one just stared intently at me with his big eyes.
“We had many memorable moments on this trip. Our favorite is the time spent with the sled dogs and getting a chance to ride on a dog sled. We also enjoyed experiencing the town of Churchill and meeting some of the locals.”
“I had always wanted to visit Churchill. Once I got here, I decided that I had to stay.” This is a story I heard repeated often in this remote Manitoban community.
“Cool, man—shark city!” bellowed Ugo while chumming the waters 30 feet away. We listened to him from the boat deck high above while hanging on to the long bow-line. As if out of nowhere, a bunch of black-tipped reef sharks appeared and began a feeding frenzy.
During the fall, Natural Habitat Adventures operates expeditions to southwest China, where guests may have the chance to spot the magnificent moon bears of the Minshan Mountain range—a hidden, enchanted place where the bears are thriving.
Our small group of explorers stood quietly in a semicircle facing the crenelated black stone slab of an unassuming grave. The raised white Cyrillic letters read “Vitusi Beringi: 1681- 1741.” A slight offshore wind blew ripples from the lead-colored bay below across this final resting place of my Danish countryman and explorer Vitus Bering.
