Physical Requirements
At Nat Hab, we provide access to some of the most wondrous nature encounters the world has to offer. Many take place in destinations that are wild and remote, with varying physical demands and limited medical facilities. All trips may not be suitable for every traveler. In order to participate in this itinerary, travelers must comfortably and reliably be able to execute all physical requirements as noted below.

Visit six locations over 12 days
Two days include more than 3.5 hours of driving, with several others involving two to three hours of driving throughout the day
Several days include early mornings and late evenings to allow maximum time for wildlife viewing and activities
Expect 2–4 miles of walking per day, often on uneven or slippery surfaces
On Ulva Island, travelers must be able to walk unassisted for 3 hours over 2–3 miles on gravel tracks with intermittent steps without handrails
Night walks are offered and may involve walking by dim light over uneven terrain
Travelers must be able to walk at least 2 miles
Although the trip includes a fair amount of walking, it is not focused on daily hiking
Occassionally, longer hikes may be available for interested travelers
Travel is mostly by small bus
Roads can be narrow and winding; travelers prone to motion sickness may wish to take precautions
Travel includes small planes to and from Stewart Island and a helicopter (with doors) from Milford Sound to Queenstown; a land transfer is available as an alternative to the helicopter flight
Not appropriate for travelers using wheelchairs, walkers or canes
Travelers must have good balance and mobility
Visiting Ulva Island requires sufficient mobility to step between the wharf and boat, involving a height similar to moving from the floor to the seat of a chair
Travelers must be able to navigate narrow and steep steps
Kayaking on this trip is optional, but those who choose to participate must have general fitness and mobility, including the ability to get into and out of a kayak, even though no prior kayaking experience is required
Temps range from 45–90°F
Rain and wind possible year-round; conditions vary day to day
Highest altitude reached is 3,000 feet at Arthur's Pass
