Day 1: Arrive in Nepal’s temple-filled capital for your Himalayan journey

  • Settle into Dwarika’s, a heritage hotel showcasing centuries of Newari craftsmanship

  • Explore Kathmandu, where Hindu and Buddhist traditions have flourished for centuries

  • Join your Expedition Leader and fellow travelers for a welcome dinner

Day 2: Journey to the wild Terai and Chitwan National Park

  • Fly from Kathmandu to the lowland forests and grasslands of the Terai

  • Settle into a riverside safari lodge overlooking prime rhino habitat

  • Watch for one-horned rhinos, gharials and crocodiles along the Rapti River

Days 3 to 4: Explore grasslands and river forests in search of rhinos and rare wildlife

  • Set out on 4x4 safaris through tall grasslands, sal forest and riverine habitat

  • Look for one-horned rhinos, sloth bears, Asian elephants and gharials

  • Watch for some of the more than 500 bird species recorded in the park

  • Hike through pine and rhododendron forest to historic Wangditse Monastery

Day 7: Cross the Himalaya to Bhutan's Palace of Great Happiness

  • Descend from Dochula Pass beneath prayer flags and 108 chortens

  • Walk through Bhutan’s first botanical garden amid rhododendrons and mountain forest

  • Explore Punakha Dzong, a royal coronation site at the meeting of two rivers

Day 8: Hike to a hilltop temple above the Punakha Valley

  • Climb to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten for sweeping mountain views

  • Picnic in Jigme Dorji National Park with a local naturalist

  • Search for Himalayan monals, satyr tragopans and other mountain birds

Day 9: Experience Bhutan’s living traditions in the Paro Valley

  • Learn how Bhutan protects sacred black-necked cranes

  • Watch monks create an intricate sand mandala representing impermanence

  • Practice traditional Bhutanese archery on a local family farm

Day 10: Climb to the cliffside monastery of Tiger’s Nest
