Capture Iconic Images of African Wildlife on an Exclusive Private Safari

Kenya has long been Africa’s most storied safari destination. Known for its legendary wildlife and evocative landscapes, Kenya offers the photographer countless opportunities to capture iconic images of Africa: Graceful giraffes browsing in acacia trees. Elephants traversing the savanna. Stealthy lions stalking gazelle. Proud Maasai bedecked in ceremonial beadwork. And, perhaps most notably, the Great Migration, a chance to photograph thousands upon thousands of wildebeest and zebra thundering across the plains, with predators in pursuit. Concentrating on private reserves, we avoid the more heavily visited parks, guaranteeing an authentic safari experience reminiscent of Kenya in days gone by. Our small groups and intimate luxury camps ensure personal attention, exceptional comfort and a matchless photo safari in which wildlife truly takes center stage.

Traveler Profile: An African Safari Experience
The Great Migration

Of all your safari options, the chance to capture Africa's Great Migration may be the pinnacle. Imagine close-up shots of thousands of wildebeest and zebra clattering over the plains, followed by a phalanx of predators—there's no greater thrill for wildlife photographers! But choosing a migration safari isn’t easy, since some companies simply add the word “migration” to their trip name when in reality, they visit crowded parks, use cramped vehicles, stay in big lodges and rely on mediocre guides. You won't get the shots you dream about on a sub-par safari.  That's why we offer a superlative experience!

  1. Fewer Travelers—Just 8 Guests—for a Superlative Experience
Our small groups, capped at 8—give you better photo opportunities and more personalized coaching. With just four guests per vehicle, every photographer gets unobstructed views and plenty of room for your equipment.

  2. Personalized Photography Coaching From an Expert Professional
Your Nat Hab Expedition Leader is intimately familiar with the Kenyan bush. Years of guiding have given your leader an intimate knowledge of animal behavior. Couple this with superb wildlife photography skills and a talent for sharing them with guests, whatever their ability level, and you’ll have a peerless photo safari.

  3. Naturalist Guiding Experience Ensures Better Photo Opportunities
Our Expedition Leaders make all the difference in the popular Maasai Mara, where less-experienced guides rely on radio calls to find wildlife, often resulting in 20 vehicles surrounding a single lion. By contrast, our Expedition Leaders know the area and wildlife intimately and are able to purposefully avoid other vehicles as we find our own sightings farther afield. This means more private and intimate encounters with wildlife—and better photos!

  4. Private Mobile Camps Offer Superior Wildlife Viewing
Our Photo Expedition spends seven nights in Nat Hab's own private mobile safari camps in the Maasai Mara ecosystem. By avoiding fixed lodges in favor of more remote locations, we increase your proximity to the Migration (including Mara River crossings!), maximize wildlife encounters, and ensure seclusion away from crowds. Our intimate bush camps offer a quiet and more personal experience, immersing you in the wild while offering exceptional comfort.

  5. Exclusive Activities on a Private Conservancy
While our itinerary includes a remote camp spot on the famed Maasai Mara National Reserve, we also give you an exclusive experience on a private Mara conservancy where wildlife is abundant and other visitors ever fewer. Private reserves also permit bush walks and night drives in search of nocturnal species—privileges not allowed on public lands.

  6. The Most In-Depth Migration Itinerary Out There
Some migration safaris spend only a day or two among the vast herds. We spend eight full days at the height of the migration, maximizing every chance to photograph the animals in a variety of settings and behaviors. This immersive experience also affords plenty of time to focus on other wildlife, too—as well as cultural visits with local Maasai communities. And your safari also includes a day of diverse wildlife photography in Nairobi National Park.

  7. Fly To and From the Bush, Maximizing Your Safari Time
Many safari companies transport you to and from the Maasai Mara from Nairobi by vehicle, meaning long, dusty drives over rough roads. We fly both ways, giving you more time for what you have come to Kenya for: wildlife photography on safari!

  8. Carry Up to 70 Pounds of Luggage
We have arranged for extra space on board our charter flights, which means our photo safari guests have a 70-pound luggage limit, far more than almost every other safari company you'll find. And the gear flies with us rather than traveling overland, which can cause damage to equipment due to difficult road conditions.

  9. The World's Finest Naturalist Guides
Natural Habitat Adventures is known worldwide for employing the finest naturalist guides on the planet. In Kenya, rather than using less qualified local camp guides at each stop, or an inexperienced safari guide as a trip escort, our NHA safari Expedition Leaders are the most highly trained guides in Africa. On our photo safaris, your guide is also an expert photographer, constantly by your side to help you get the best possible pictures. With our groups from beginning to end, each of our Expedition Leaders average more than 15 years' guiding experience , and their training is further enhanced by WWF’s premiere scientists. Our philosophy on this is simple: an African safari is only as good as the guide, so we must provide the very best! Check out our Photo Expedition Leader bios and traveler comments about them.

  10. Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures Your Superior Kenya Experience
With Natural Habitat Adventures, you receive our exclusive guarantee, which clearly states that we will meet the lofty expectations we set in our promotional materials. To our knowledge, this is the most ambitious guarantee made by any adventure travel company. Read our important promise.

  11. Feel Good About Your Carbon-Neutral Journey
We care deeply about our planet, as we know you do. When you travel with us, the carbon emissions from your trip are 100% offset—including your round-trip flights from home. Natural Habitat Adventures has been the world’s first carbon-neutral travel company since 2007.

  12. Natural Habitat Adventures is WWF's Travel Partner

Because of our commitment to environmentally friendly travel, as well as the exceptional quality of our adventures, World Wildlife Fund—the world's leading environmental conservation organization—has named Natural Habitat Adventures as its worldwide travel partner, a designation that makes us exceedingly proud!
